@olegil

AROS Developers were first who brought SMP to Amiga. It can be done but there are problems.

broadblues misspoke. what he meant was that filesysbox has been substantially rewritten to use the new DOS vector-port API. and, yes, that is *very* AOS4. it has nothing to do with any GUI.

Broadblues made a mistake, he wrote "rewritten to use the vector port GUI" whereas he meant "vector port API". This is a new API for AmigaOS4 DOS, and is therefore an OS4-specific feature.

EDIT: Eliyahu was faster

NTFS is not, it based on filesysbox port from sources provided by the original author (apologies I forget his name) and does not contain any code from the later Morphos fork (later in the contxet of the source starting point not the timing Os4 port). The author confirmed this the last time this FUD was spread.

What did he confirm? That Filesysbox (it's a name!) was created on MorphOS? That it adapts the Linux FUSE interface to Amiga OS standards?

He (being Lief Salomonsson, I looked it up this time so as not to be so rude to him) confirmed that the AmigaOS port of filesysbox.library (it's a libray name!) was based on src code which predated the Morphos port (I'm unsure whether the previous taget was AROS or 68k) thus it was *not* developed on and ported from Morphos.

In addition filesysbox has been rewritten to use the vector port GUI, and so is *very* AmigaOS 4

Well I'd like to return your rudeness but I don't want to make more work for Dave or any other moderator so I'll just apologise for my typo, I meant API ofcourse, but with MUI also in the subject of my post I accidentally substituted GUI.

BTW NTFS isn't ported at all, the only NTFS sources are those of Microsoft. While reverse engineered implementations like the FUSE variant we are talking about here
_should_ be relatively stable nowadays I'd not recommend it for something remotely critical.

NTFS_3g (or whatever it's exact name is) has been arround for a while, so I would trust it for data tranfer between OSes (I use it most on my linux/windows box, obviously not the AmigaOS version!) I wouldn't use it as first or even second for an amiga hardisk though for lots of reasons.

We seem to be sprirally rapidly off topic though.

Okay. I always had impression that porter used same MorphOS source code developed on MorphOS, just with 68k target. But AFAIK it still is not official Hyperion stuff? That is what Geit said. Just like MUI4 which is external development.

So pavlor was wrong.

@itix

External work by people with access to the OS4 dev list.

Just because they cater for other "variants" of AmigaOS (not based on original source-code although there is some debate about that), does not exclude them from supporting the project.

Might be easier just to link to what Salass said and Leif agreed with.

@Hyperionmp

Having an access to the OS4 dev list dont make them official OS4 developers nor their contributions official OS4 components. Make it part of OS4 and then it is OS4 component.

@Boot_WB

Ben Hermans signs his posts "director legal".

It's not Ben. Hope that helps.

I can assure you that between the work for the new generation of hardware for AmigaOS 4.x, work on AmigaOS 4.2 is ongoing.

I took a huge dump this morning. And I can promise you that tomorrow more is coming. It will be HUGE!

Please bear in mind however that some of the goals (SMP e.g.) were deemed "impossible" to achieve barring sandboxing the current API, at least by a quite vocal group.

Not impossible -- impossible while retaining Amiga backwards compatibility, anyone with the slightest understanding of the "classic" Amiga can tell you this! Don't twist things here! If recompiling the sw and app base is acceptable then it's at least theoretically doable as shown by AROS devs. On AROS recompiling apps has never been seen as an issue. Are you adopting the AROS views on compatibility now? That nugget of news would ALSO be .. eh HUGE! Tell us more so we can cheer!

Since we realize that many of you are getting somewhat impatient, there will be a "nice surprise" before the end of the year.

I'd say BenH indeed, even though he did not sign with the number6 suggested signature. I spoke with Timothy a few years ago in person and I think he does not have access to Hyperion's official account (and in my opnion he would not write such a message anyway), and by carefully reading Evert's messages of the last couple of years you can safely bet that HyperionMP is just BenH. And indeed it's just the same old Ben Hermans at work.
(BTW, can I remember that an account used by multiple users would be forbidden by aw.net terms of use in all other cases and has already lead to ban in the past?)

Kind regards,
Andrea

@guruman

Who is HyperionMP?

As you can see, information was added to the sig during the course of this thread. It was later suggested people sign their posts, which only Ben has done through use of the "director legal" tag.

Timothy posts as @simpleppc and I'd be surprised if he posts under the corporate account.

The other users of the corporate account have only been referred to in general and I've not seen their posts signed.

That's about all I can tell you. *shrug*
